What is a defined entity?
The Act applies to certain organisations that have 50 or more employees, including:
- public service bodies
- public entities
- special bodies
- local councils
- universities
- Court Services Victoria
- Office of Public Prosecutions
Defined entities have obligations to promote workplace gender equality and consider gender equality in their policies, programs and services.
Local government
Meeting your obligations under the Gender Equality Act 2020 will satisfy the gender equality planning requirements of the Local Government Act 2020.
Universities
Victoria’s universities already collect data against a set of workplace gender equality indicators under the federal Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012. The reporting period for universities will be consistent with requirements under that Act. Read more about progress reports.
