Following a competitive selection process, the Commission is pleased to announce the recipient of our 2024 Targets Pilot research funding. The successful team is led by Professor Michelle Ryan, Director of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at the Australian National University.

The research team also includes:

  • University of Melbourne
    • A/Prof Victor Sojo Monzon
  • Australian National University
    • Dr Gosia Mikolajczak
    • Dr Elise Stephenson
    • Dr Alexandra Fisher
  • University of Tasmania
    • Dr Miriam Glennie

The project will commence in June 2024 and be completed in December 2026.

The team will investigate what drives progress towards gender equality targets in the public sector.

They will study selected defined entities working towards targets from Our Equal State: Victoria's gender equality strategy and action plan 2023-2027. These targets are:

  • halve the gender pay gap in the Victorian public sector within 5 years
  • reach gender equality in senior leadership positions in each portfolio within 5 years
  • double the number of men taking paid parental leave in the Victorian public sector.

The team will use a mixed-methods research approach. They will consider intersectionality across all project stages. Their final report will provide recommendations to help organisations achieve gender equality targets.

The Commission looks forward to working with Professor Ryan and the team on this important project. The knowledge from this work will support organisations to achieve intersectional gender equality. Congratulations to the team!
